Palm Charcoal: A Traditional Remedy

Palm Charcoal

With a bitter and astringent flavor, palm charcoal is considered neutral in nature. It is believed to support the lung, liver, and large intestine channels. The medicinal part used is the fibrous sheath of the leaves of the palm species, Trachycarpus wagnerianus Becc.

Palm Charcoal Uses

This herb typically appears as long, board-like stripsβ€”narrower and thicker at one end, and wider and thinner at the other. The surface is rough, reddish-brown, and features longitudinal wrinkles, with a notable presence of brown hairs on one side. It's hard and tough, with a fiber-like break when snapped. While odorless, it has a plain taste.

Usage and Dosage of Palm Charcoal

Internally, it can be consumed as a decoction in quantities of 9-15g or in powdered form at 3-6g. For external use, sprinkle its powder on the affected area. Do not use if there's a presence of congestion or pathological heat.
