Understanding the Ingredients and Functions
The formula includes American Ginseng to boost vital energy and fluids, enhancing yin while cooling internal heat. Together with watermelon rind, these form the primary ingredients. Lotus stems help clear heat and relieve chest congestion; Dendrobium and Ophiopogon assist Ginseng in nourishing yin and promoting fluids. Coptis root eliminates heat through its bitter coolness, while Anemarrhenaβs smooth bitter quality soothes yin and cools fire. Bamboo leaves purge heat and alleviate irritability. Licorice and rice aid digestion and harmonize the stomach.
How to Prepare and Use
Mix 5g of American Ginseng, 15g of Dendrobium, 9g of Ophiopogon, 3g of Coptis, 6g of Bamboo leaves, 6g of lotus stems, 6g of Anemarrhena, 3g of Licorice, 15g of rice, and 30g of watermelon rind. Grind the ingredients and simmer in 300ml of water until reduced to 150ml. Strain the mixture and consume warm on an empty stomach.
Adjustments can be made: If summer heat is intense, add Gypsum to clear further. For damp heat symptoms, omit the more moisturizing ingredients like Dendrobium and Ophiopogon, adding patchouli and Six to One Powder instead. If treating children with summer heat symptoms, modify the formula by removing Coptis and Anemarrhena, replacing them with white peony root and Lycium bark.
